Why You’ll Love This Moscow Mule Mocktail

Beyond its great flavor, this mocktail is packed with nourishing ingredients. Pineapple juice is rich in vitamin C and bromelain, an enzyme that supports digestion and may reduce inflammation. Fresh lime juice adds an extra punch of antioxidants and supports liver health, while ginger beer (especially varieties made with real ginger) can help soothe digestion and ease stomach discomfort.

The addition of fresh sage gives it an aromatic twist and offers its own set of benefits. Research shows that sage can have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This ginger beer mocktail recipe is not just a refreshing drink- it’s one with perks for your body, too. Serve this up at your next special occasion, and keep this recipe on hand for the next holiday season and upcoming dry January!

Mocktails like this one are a great way to enjoy social occasions without the need for alcohol, which can be especially beneficial for those trying to cut back or avoid it altogether. Reducing alcohol intake supports better sleep, balanced blood sugar, improved energy levels, and reduced inflammation.

For women with PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), limiting alcohol can be particularly helpful, as alcohol can impact insulin sensitivity and hormone regulation. Choosing a non-alcoholic beverage is a simple and empowering step toward supporting hormonal balance and long-term health without feeling like you’re missing out.

Ingredients Needed for Ginger Beer Mocktail

Here are the main ingredients you’ll need to craft the perfect ginger beer mocktail! It’s basically a non-alcoholic version of a traditional Moscow mule cocktail. You should be able to find all of these simple ingredients at your local grocery store.

ingredients needed to make a pineapple ginger beer mocktail.
  • Pineapple juice: adds a naturally sweet, tropical flavor that balances the spice of ginger beer and the tartness of lime. I normally use canned pineapple juice, but you can also juice it yourself if you’re feeling fancy. You could also substitute cranberry juice or pomegranate juice instead.

  • Light ginger beer: the star of the show! Choose light ginger beer if it’s available to you. Otherwise, regular ginger beer is fine, but it will be higher in calories and sugar. I’ve tried this with both Fever-Tree and Q Mixers, my favorite ginger beers, and it works excellent with either. For a stronger ginger flavor, you can add in fresh grated ginger.

  • Lime, juiced: freshly squeezed lime is always great, but you can easily use pre-packaged lime juice. About 2 tbsp lime juice is the equivalent of 1 fresh lime.

  • Fresh sage: fresh sage elevates this mocktail and takes it to the next level! It adds an earthy, slightly peppery, and aromatic note.

  • Agave: agave adds an added touch of sweetness to balance out the tart pineapple juice. However, it’s completely optional! You can also use honey or maple syrup for a different flavor profile.

How to Make It

Step 1: In a cocktail shaker or sturdy glass, add the fresh sage, lime juice, and agave. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently muddle the sage – just enough to release its aromatic oils without turning it bitter.

Step 2: Next, add the pineapple juice and a handful of ice to your shaker or mixing glass. Shake well, about 10 to 15 seconds, until the outside of your shaker feels cold to the touch.

Step 3: Strain through a fine-mesh or cocktail strainer into a glass filled with fresh crushed ice or ice cubes. I love using a fun copper mug like this one! You can also use a cute mason jar.

Step 4: Top with ginger beer and stir gently. Garnish with your choice of a sage leaf, pineapple wedge, or lime wheels.

Tips, Variations, + Substitutions

Use these tips and variations to customize your fizzy ginger beer mocktail to your preferences.

  • Pre-chill your ginger beer and pineapple juice before using them for a refreshing, chilled taste.
  • Don’t like or have pineapple juice on hand? Substitute pomegranate, cranberry, or orange juice instead!
  • For a higher fiber drink option, swap ginger beer with a prebiotic ginger-flavored soda, such as Olipop’s Ginger Ale
  • Get creative with fresh herbs! You can substitute fresh mint or basil for sage.
  • For a more complex flavor and fun twists, add in additional fresh fruit such as blackberry or blood orange!
  • Looking for a spicy kick? Add a slice of fresh jalapeño or a dash of cayenne or Tajin for a spicy-sweet combo.
  • No limes? Use lemons or lemon juice instead.
  • For an even lower sugar option with the same sweetness, swap agave with stevia, monkfruit, or your favorite low-calorie sweetener.
